On Tuesday morning, the Academy Awards nominees for 2023 were announced. Everything Everywhere All at Once topped the list with 11 nominations.

Because each of the five nominees is a first-time contender, the race for best actor is particularly noteworthy.

Sound of Metal's Riz Ahmed, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom's Chadwick Boseman, The Father's Anthony Hopkins, Mank's Gary Oldman, and Minari's Steven Yeun round out the list.

Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman, Viola Davis for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Vanessa Kirby for Pieces of a Woman, Andra Day for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie round out the list of nominees for best actress. In the same acting category, this is only the second time five first-time contenders have been nominated. The Dolby Theatre will host the Oscars on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
