Black Adam, starring the Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson alongside Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, and Marwan Kenzari is finally out in the theatres. The film made its debut in Indian theatres on October 20, a day earlier than its global release.
Johnson plays the role of a Middle Eastern slave who is transformed into a God in the DC Extended Universe called Teth-Adam. The demi-divine character rises from the dead 5000 years after his clash with Anh-Kot, only to realize that the world is now full of city walls and corporate complexes- awaiting a new saviour.
Johnson's larger-than-life physicality makes him the ideal actor to play a superhero, and the film appeals to his strengths. The Rock's performance is being much applauded but the film's CGI has received patchy praises from the audiences. The approval ratings on various critic review sites have also been muted - with several of them rating the new DC venture below their own Man of Steel and Wonder Woman. The spoiler alerts of Superman returning to the DC Universe as leaked from the end credits - promises a new lease of life to the flailing franchise.
The action is on-point and so is Johnson's dead-pan humour that has kept him a fan-favourite for decades now.
The former WWE wrestler also recently hobnobbed with some Bollywood stars including Varun Dhawan to ensure his release gets to the ears of his Indian fans. Varun too, openly gave in by expressing his admiration for The Rock and his forthcoming movie with an endearing Twitter exchange. The wrestler-turned-actor thanked his Indian fans for their support of him and his upcoming movie saying, "I appreciate India. Appreciate all the love from Black Adam (and over the years as well ). Purchase your tickets right away — this is a genuine theatrical event. It was great to communicate with the entire press in your nation last week! Enjoy the movie and I love you back," his tweet stated.
Varun retweeted the original post and added, "Let's go finally going to get to watch my hero again on the big screen," to express his own sense of anticipation. In response, Dwayne Johnson thanked Varun for his support and mentioned that the movie took 15 years to make. He also urged Varun to see the movie.
As DC's previous line-ups have left a bitter-sweet experience for fans with spurts of excellence flowing through decent filmmaking across ventures like Justice League, Batman, Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad, we hope this one comes through the top of the charts to set the pace for a showdown with the Superman in the next set.
