UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam Result 2024 Released

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2024, which was conducted on June 16, 2024. This exam is the first step in the prestigious Indian Civil Service selection process.

Exam Structure:

1. Preliminary Examination (completed)

2. Main Examination (upcoming)

3. Interview/Personality Test (final stage)

Preliminary Examination Details:

The Civil Services Aptitude Test, or CSAT, is made up of two parts: General Studies Papers I and 2.

- Each paper is 200 marks, totaling 400 marks.

- Duration: 2 hours per paper.

- Format: Objective type (multiple choice questions)

Qualifying Criteria:

- Minimum 33% marks required in CSAT (Paper-II)

- The UPSC determines the Paper-I cut-off based on candidate performance and open positions.

Negative Marking:

- For every wrong answer, a mark deduction of 0.33 is applied.

- Multiple answers marked are treated as incorrect.

Main Examination:

- Nine papers in total.

-Seven papers go towards the final ranking.

- English and Indian language papers are required.

Interview/Personality Test:

- 275 marks

- No minimum qualifying score

- Assesses candidate's suitability for a career in civil services

Important Notes:

1. The preliminary exam is merely a means of selection. Grades have no bearing on the final decision.

2. Candidates roughly twice the number of vacancies are called for the interview.

3. Final selection and service allocation is based on the combined performance in the main exam and Interview.

Preparation Tips:

- Focus on current affairs, Indian history, geography, politics, and economics for Prelims

- Develop answer writing skills for Mains

- Practice mock interviews and stay updated on national and international issues.
