July 5: In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Center claims that there is no need to retake NEET-UG 2024 in the absence of evidence of significant irregularities in the test. As stated in its affidavit, the Union Ministry of Education, eliminating the exam would "seriously jeopardize" the lakhs of sincere applicants who attempted the NEET-UG 2024 questions.
" It would not be rational to scrap the entire examination", said the Centre
Additionally, the Union government told the court that it has asked that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carry out an exhaustive investigation into the whole spectrum of alleged anomalies. Several students who met the requirements for NEET UG 2024 have filed a case in the Supreme Court requesting an order preventing the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Center from cancelling the exam.
Today marks the announcement of the revised date for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET PG) test, which was postponed nearly 13 days ago. The NEET PG examination will now be conducted on August 11 by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Two shifts will be held for NEET PG in 2024. The shift details are not included in the formal notice that NBE provided.
The Exam Pattern
The exam comprises 200 Multiple Choice Questions with each question having 4 response options/ distractors in the English language only. In each question, candidates must choose one of the four response options as the correct/best/most appropriate response/answer out of the 4 response options provided in each question. The time allotted is 3 hrs 30 minutes.
The exam was originally scheduled for June 23, but NBEMS postponed it as a "precautionary measure" in response to reports of irregularities in some of the most recent competitive examinations. Every year, almost two lakh MBBS graduates apply for approximately 52,000 postgraduate seats nationwide through the NEET PG exam. The board stated that the exam was cancelled because the Ministry wanted to ensure that there was no flaw in the process and to assess how reliable the exam procedure was.
Chief NBE Dr Abhijat Sheth added that the Ministry wished to ensure that, during a period when NTA exam cancellations had alarmed Indian students, miscreants did not profit unduly from the vulnerability of NEET PG applicants. The cut-off date for eligibility to appear in the NEET PG 2024 remains the same – August 15, 2024.
