The Sensex and Nifty 50 hit new all-time highs in the intraday session, with the Sensex touching 67,927.23 and the Nifty 50 crossing 20,200.
"Intraday session" means the trading day from the opening bell to the closing bell.
Auto and information technology (IT) stocks led the indices to record highs on Friday. The Nifty and the Sensex closed at record highs. The Sensex registered its eleventh consecutive session of gains.
Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, and Eicher Motors boosted auto stocks, while HCL Tech and Wipro helped the IT sector remain steady. According to Indian Express, the companies that declined the most included BPCL, Hindustan Unilever, Britannia Industries and Asian Paints. China's economy showed early signs of recovery in August, with retail sales rising 4.6% and industrial output growing 4.5%, both higher than the previous month.
US retail sales exceeded expectations, rising 0.6% in August, compared to the forecast of 0.1%. The European Central Bank (ECB) also raised rates by 25 basis points (bps) to 4%, a record high, and signalled that this would be the last rate hike in the tightening cycle.
