CEO Sam Altman will rejoin OpenAI's board of directors, the business said on Friday, barely months after being dismissed and then rehired by the startup behind ChatGPT.
The business claimed that An internal inquiry started in the days following Altman's stormy firing last year also revealed that he had been wrongfully fired.
Together with Altman, the three other new directors on the board are Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart; Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; and Nicole Seligman, former president of Sony Entertainment. They will be joined by former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and ex-Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, who joined right after the turmoil in November 2023.

Microsoft also obtained an observer position on OpenAI's board at the time, prompting criticism and a lawsuit earlier this week from Elon Musk, who helped launch OpenAI in 2015 before abandoning the project.

Adam D'Angelo, the CEO of Quora, is the only member of the previous board who decided to remove Altman. With his decision to launch ChatGPT in November 2022, Altman has emerged as the face of the most recent artificial intelligence explosion.
However, in an unexpected move, the company's board abruptly sacked Altman without a clear reason, threatening a mass exodus of the 700-strong staff who remained loyal to their star CEO.
