In 2023, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, secured the title of India's wealthiest gainer by adding $10 billion to his net worth. This achievement surpassed Savitri Jindal, the former chairperson of the OP Jindal Group, who was initially reported as the year's top wealth-gainer earlier this month.
This year, Mukesh Ambani experienced a wealth growth of $9.98 billion, attributed to a notable 9% rise in Reliance Industries shares and the listing of Jio Financial Services stock following the demerger. Consequently, Ambani's total net worth now stands at $97.1 billion, securing his position as India's wealthiest man.
HCL founder Shiv Nadar secured the second spot by becoming $9.47 billion richer in 2023, with his net worth reaching $34 billion, driven by a 41 percent increase in HCL shares this year.
Securing the third position on the list is Savitri Jindal, experiencing a net worth gain of $9 billion in the current year. With a total net worth of $24.7 billion, Jindal holds the distinction of being the wealthiest woman in India. Her primary sources of wealth are attributed to her group companies, including Jindal Steel, Jindal Steel and Power, and Jindal Energy.
Shapoor Mistry's wealth increased by $7.41 billion this year, bringing his total net worth to $35.2 billion.
Other Addition to the list of top wealth gainers in India include Kumar Mangalam Birla from Aditya Birla Group, who added $7.09 billion, Ravi Jaipuria from Varun Beverages with a gain of $5.91 billion, and Dilip Shanghvi from Sun Pharma, whose net worth increased by $5.26 billion.
Gautam Adani of the Adani Group, India's second richest man, faced the most significant wealth decline in 2023. Despite briefly surpassing Mukesh Ambani as the country's wealthiest with a net worth exceeding $110 billion, a substantial loss of over $37 billion resulted in Adani's net worth plummeting to $83.2 billion.
