Zomato’s co-founder and Chief People Officer, Akriti Chopra, has stepped down from her role after a 13-year tenure at the food delivery giant. The company, led by CEO Deepinder Goyal, announced her resignation in a filing with stock exchanges, stating, "Ms. Akriti Chopra, Co-Founder & Chief People Officer, has tendered her resignation with effect from September 27, 2024."
Chopra’s Remarkable Journey at Zomato
Akriti Chopra first joined Zomato in November 2011 as a senior manager in finance and operations. Over the years, she climbed the ranks, taking on key positions, including Vice President of Finance & Operations and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In October 2020, she transitioned into the role of Head of People Development before becoming Zomato's Chief People Officer in June 2021.
Zomato confirmed that Chopra is leaving the company to explore new opportunities. In an email to CEO Deepinder Goyal, she reflected on her journey, stating, "It has been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I'm always a call away :)"
A Series of Leadership Exits
Chopra’s departure follows several high-profile exits from Zomato’s leadership team. In January 2023, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Gunjan Patidar resigned after more than a decade at the company. In November 2022, co-founder Mohit Gupta also stepped down after being promoted to the role of co-founder in 2020 from his position as CEO of Zomato’s food delivery business.
Before her long stint at Zomato, Akriti Chopra worked at PwC for three years, focusing on tax and regulatory practices. Her extensive experience in finance and leadership has been pivotal to Zomato’s growth over the years.
