10 Well-Known Brands that you Didn’t know were Indian

Well, guess what? Desi brands aren’t desi anymore. Fast-forwarded by the impact of globalization, these brands have moved west and east. Below are the TEN INDIAN BRANDS that are blowing up overseas as much as they are in their homeland. Also, this might be a shock for some that these brands are Indian.

1. Old Monk

Launched in 1954, it is a vanilla-flavored dark rum with an alcohol content of 42.8%. It is dark maroon in color. It is produced in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and has its registered office in Solar, Himachal Pradesh. Its popularity depends on word of mouth and the loyalty of customers. It is sold in six variant sizes. Old Monk has been awarded gold medals at Monde Selections since 1982. Old Monk is sold by some retailers in the UK, Germany, Kenya, Canada, Australia, the United States Of America, and many such places overseas.

2. Amul

Amul was founded by Tribhuvandas Patel- under the direction of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first deputy prime minister of India in 1946. It is based in Anand, Gujarat. In today’s time, it is controlled jointly by 36 milk producers in Gujarat. The word “Amul” stands for “Amulya” meaning priceless.  Today Amul is available in over 40 countries of the world. The major markets are the US, Africa, Japan, and many more. Amul was ranked 18th position in 2012. However, it did make its way up, and currently, it is in the 8th position. Among the top 10 milk processors, Amul succeeds in its place representing India.

AND designs came into existence in 1995. It was founded by Anita Dongre, Mukesh Sawlani, and Meena Sehra. It has flourished globally and not just in India because of the ideas which met the expectations of international styles and trends. 

4. Ferns N Petals

Ferns N Petals was founded in 1994 by Vikaas Gutgutia. It is an Indian gifting company that provides flowers, gifts, and cakes to customers across the country.  It has its headquarters in New Delhi. In the year 2020, it launched its digital gifting section. After being established in India, they expanded into South East Asian and Middle East space. Currently, Jahnvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor is the brand ambassador of Ferns N Petals. 
 

5.Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield is an Indian motorcycle brand headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The first Royal Enfield motorcycle was built in 1901. Though it started under foreign production, it always had Indian cooperations. Royal Enfield becomes the No.1 Motorcycle in the world. It is the most active manufacturer between North America and Europe.

6. Lakme

Lakmé is an Indian cosmetics brand owned by Hindustan Unilever. Named after the French opera Lakmé, it was started in 1952. Lakmé mainly sells cosmetics such as lipsticks, eyeliners, skincare products, etc. It’s one of the leading cosmetic brands which is headquartered in Mumbai. Today, it has over 300 products catering to over 70 countries worldwide. 

7. Louis Phillipe

Well, didn't expect this brand to be on this list? Me neither, trust me. This brand is named after a French king, but it originated in India. It is a division of Aditya Birla Fashion and Lifestyle. They have a wide variety of products available all over the world.

8. Jaguar

Jaguar is owned by TATA Motors. This luxury vehicle brand is manufactured in India. The company was established in 1922. Jaguar is known for its luxury. The United States has emerged as the most important sales market for Jaguar.

The Indian brand for men’s clothing that started in 1989 is owned by Mathura Fashion and Lifestyle. It is a brand that is sold in over 55 countries across the world. They provide varieties from workwear and casual to party wear and even sportswear. 

10. Da Milano

Again shocked? So were we. Yes, Da Milano is a global brand that was made in India. The journey began in 1989 when the brand was taken over by Sahil Malik’s father. Starting with one store in Delhi, the brand is running all over the world in 60 stores. It is a brand of creativity, luxury, and innovation.
