Tata Motors has marked a major milestone with the launch of its highly anticipated Nexon iCNG, starting at Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This compact SUV has become the only vehicle in India offering four distinct powertrain options: petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG. The Nexon CNG is set to challenge its main competitor, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, currently leading the sub-4-metre SUV segment.
Key Features of the Tata Nexon iCNG
The Tata Nexon iCNG is the first CNG-powered SUV in India to feature a turbo petrol engine. Equipped with twin CNG cylinders, the vehicle boasts a total capacity of 60 litres (30+30). Despite a slightly reduced boot space of 321 litres compared to the petrol and diesel variants, the Nexon iCNG offers the most spacious luggage area among CNG models.
One of the standout features is the ability to start directly in CNG mode, with seamless fuel switching through a single ECU. The Nexon iCNG also automatically shifts to another fuel option when one runs low, ensuring uninterrupted driving.
Premium Features and Equipment
The top-tier Nexon CNG variant is loaded with high-end features, including twin 10.25-inch displays—one for the infotainment system and the other for the digital instrument cluster, which supports navigation. It also includes leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and cornering fog lamps.
Additionally, it comes with an 8-speaker JBL sound system and height-adjustable front passenger seats. The vehicle is fully equipped with LED headlights, DRLs, and tail lamps, with the top model featuring sequential LED lighting and welcome/goodbye lights.
Safety Features
Tata Motors has ensured that the Nexon iCNG is packed with safety features. It comes with six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), ISOFIX mounts, reverse sensors, and hill hold control as standard. Higher variants offer a 360-degree camera, blind view monitor, auto-dimming IRVM, auto headlamps, rearview camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system for enhanced safety.
The Nexon iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, generating 99 bhp at 5500 rpm and 170 Nm of torque between 2000 and 3000 rpm. While it currently comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, there are indications that an AMT option may be introduced soon. The Nexon iCNG is available in eight variants, with prices ranging from Rs 8.99 lakh to Rs 14.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
With its range of features and unique powertrain options, the Tata Nexon iCNG is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian SUV market.
