MG Motor has unveiled its highly anticipated Windsor EV in the Indian market, priced at an appealing ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch introduces MG’s latest electric vehicle, following the ZS EV and Comet EV, and brings a fresh innovation with the company’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) program. This program allows customers to purchase the vehicle at a reduced initial cost and opt for a battery rental at ₹3.5 lakh, thereby lowering the upfront expenditure.
Booking and Delivery Details
Bookings for the MG Windsor EV will commence on October 3, 2024, with conveyances anticipated to begin on October 12, 2024. This launch is MG’s first since JSW’s partial acquisition of its Indian subsidiary. The Windsor EV, a hybrid utility vehicle (CUV), combines the qualities of both a car and an SUV, advertising a particular choice in the competitive EV landscape.
Design
The Windsor EV, essentially a rebranded version of the Wuling Cloud EV available in other global markets, comes with India-specific modifications. Measuring 4,295 mm in length, it is slightly shorter than the ZS EV but boasts a taller and wider profile with dimensions of 1,677 mm in height and 1,850 mm in width. The 2,700 mm wheelbase ensures generous rear-seat space. The vehicle features 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED DRLs, modern headlight units, a front-charging inlet, LED tail lights, and flush-fitting door handles.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Windsor EV emphasizes luxury and comfort with rear seats that recline up to 135 degrees, a panoramic sunroof, air purification system, and ambient lighting. Additional highlights incorporate a 360-degree camera, a 9-speaker sound framework, a PM2.5 discuss filtration channel, and six airbags.
It is prepared with an 8.8-inch driver show, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen supporting remote Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Level 2 ADAS.
Performance Specifications
The Windsor EV is driven by a 134 bhp electric motor producing 200 Nm of torque, powered by a 38 kWh LFP battery pack. It boasts a claimed range of 331 km on a single charge, positioning it competitively against rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV, Curvy EV, and Mahindra XUV400.
