Oliver Kaplan, a British man, was shocked to discover that Uber had intended to charge him approximately $39,317, or roughly 32 lakh Rupees, for just a 15-minute journey when he checked his bank account, according to a New York Post report.
After working at the Buxton Inn in Manchester, England, the 22-year-old recently requested a car through a ride-sharing service. A chef by profession he planned to meet his friends at Witchwood, a bar four miles away, according to the outlet. As he does most evenings on his way home from work, Kaplan requested an Uber. According to him, the suggested retail price for the app was between $11 and $12. He boarded the Uber as soon as the driver showed up there, and the driver took him exactly where he needed to be. It took around fifteen minutes to get there.
When Kaplan woke up the following morning, he was unaware that he had been charged £35,427. Kaplan quickly utilized the app to get in touch with Uber's customer service department to ask about the excessive fee.
The support team looked into the situation and discovered that the man's drop-off location had been altered to Australia as a result of an unforeseen application issue. His location was allegedly changed from Witchwood, Manchester, to a park with the same name in Victoria, Australia, according to the firm. The program was unable to deduct the fare since Oliver's account did not have enough balance. However, Uber was quite helpful and quickly fixed the problem. To put it gently, according to Kaplan, it was a tense thirty minutes.
