CBI to investigate if violence in Manipur was pre-planned

With the prevailing predicament in Manipur, a northeastern state in India, situations have taken a new turn, as CBI is involved to probe investigations suspecting the riot as a preplanned one.

The whole provocation of the locals of Manipur, particularly the Meitei and the Kuki communities, is due to a Manipur HC order, which ordered the State government to recommend the Centre to include the Meiti community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.

Following this the state has been caught with locals from both parties attacking each other, which caused a simmering tension. Reports say that over 9000 people were relocated to safe places, which includes several casualties and deaths.

Recently the Congress Spokesperson, Bhakta Charan Das, addressed the press and claimed that “It seems it (violence) was pre-planned” because no one from the central government is monitoring this issue”. He also demanded a compensation sum of Rs.20 lakhs, to the immediate kin of those killed.

Following these allegations, the Central Bureau of Investigations, have pitched in to review the underlying cause of the riots which took place. The state government provided 6 case histories to CBI out of 3734 FIR, which could trail a way for unravelling some facts about the existing community politics in Manipur
