Ramnagar, Gateway to Jim Corbett National Park, Up in Arms Against Wildlife Crime

The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) recently held a conference in Dehradun, with one of its sessions focusing on search and seizure. In a major crackdown, the Uttarakhand forest department seized two tusks from a resident of Ramnagar during early hours on Friday.

A five-year analysis of wildlife seizure records has revealed that wildlife hunting and trade without permission are criminal activities that are rampant in India.

Furthermore, experts state that most wildlife criminals are acquitted due to poor evidence or shoddy representation by all those involved including the frontline forest staff.  This highlights the need for increased legal insight and provisions to ensure successful prosecution of wildlife criminals.
