On June 26, 2023, YouTube Stories will be discontinued, according to a statement from the Google-owned video platform. The seven-day expiration period applies to stories that are already live on that date. In-app messages, forum posts, YouTube Studio reminders, and other methods will all be used to inform creators of the shutdown.
As a result of TikTok's success, services are moving away from stories and towards the short-form vertical video style that TikTok made famous. The 'Extras' function, which Netflix tried to implement in its mobile app, was similar to Stories in that it allowed users to share videos and images from well-known television shows and motion pictures.
Spotify just added a feature for artist profiles that is comparable to LinkedIn's Stories feature, which was withdrawn by LinkedIn in 2021. In the past, YouTube provided access to Stories to creators with more than 10,000 subscribers, but it never opened up access to all YouTube users, inhibiting the growth of informal, private sharing.
After the shutdown was announced, the business claimed that YouTube community postings can be a fantastic choice for creators who want to provide quick updates, initiate conversations, or advertise their YouTube content. Additionally, YouTube Shorts is the ideal choice for users looking to create brief video content or expand their following because, among creators who use both Shorts and Stories, the average number of subscribers for Shorts is significantly greater than that for Stories.
