According to reports, Samsung is getting ready to release a smart ring called 'Galaxy Ring' in 2024. They are working together with both local and international component manufacturers to make sure it's successful before they decide on mass production, which could be as soon as next month. The smart ring comes with special built-in sensors that gather detailed body and health data, and users can easily check this information on their connected smartphones. To make sure it's accurate, the ring can be adjusted to fit the user's finger size, avoiding data errors caused by loose fittings.
However, Samsung is facing some challenges in the development process. Issues like weak blood flow or a too-tight fit might affect the accuracy of the data collected. Moreover, if mass production gets approval, obtaining medical device status certification could take around 10 to 12 months, which might delay when the product will be available for purchase.
Furthermore, Samsung is exploring the possibility of combining the 'Galaxy Ring' with XR (mixed reality) devices. They aim to utilize XR technology with cameras and sensors to monitor users' head and hand movements, as indicated in their patent applications. Notably, a Reddit user made a noteworthy discovery in the Samsung Health beta app. The "Feature List" mentioned "Ring Support," suggesting that Samsung might be considering two options. They could either add support for smart rings made by other companies or launch the Galaxy Ring while ensuring compatibility with third-party rings on the Health platform.
