Emmett Shear is well-known for his leadership at Twitch, where he played a pivotal role in evolving the platform into a prominent live video platform. He also served as a part-time partner at the venture capital firm Y Combinator. Altman's abrupt firing was attributed to communication issues, and the board faced pressure from investors and the threat of a mass employee walkout.
Despite missing truce deadlines, the board surprised the industry by appointing Shear as the interim CEO. This decision seemingly closes the door on Altman's return.
