Now with its new feature, Google has made it easier for its users to unsubscribe from emails, which will help people reduce the number of spam emails they receive. Soon Many users find it difficult to manage their overflowing inboxes, especially when they take up a significant portion of Gmail storage. Google will now separate the 'unsubscribe' option, making it more visible and accessible for both mobile and web versions of Gmail. The option to "Report spam & unsubscribe" will be divided into two distinct options: "Report spam" and "Unsubscribe". These features will be available to all Google Workspace customers and personal users on web and iOS devices.
"Every day, Gmail's AI-powered defences prevent more than 99.9% of spam, phishing, and malware from reaching inboxes, blocking nearly 15 billion unwanted emails. However, nearly 20 years after Gmail's launch, the threats we face are more complex and pressing than ever," said Alphabet, Google's parent company, in a press release.
According to a report by Live Mint, the company announced the new features via a Google Workspace update, to make it easier to unsubscribe from unwanted emails in Gmail. Furthermore, Google acknowledged the frustration users experience by managing unwanted emails and stated that the changes are part of an effort to improve user safety. The company stated that the unsubscribe button will be moved to the hover sections of the thread list on the web. When the unsubscribe button is clicked, Gmail sends an HTTP request or an email to the sender, removing the user's address from the mailing list. Moving the unsubscribe button to the three-dot menu to make it more visible on the user's Android and iOS devices.
According to 9to5Google, Google will require bulk senders (those sending more than 5,000 emails) to include a one-click unsubscribe link by February 2024. The one-click unsubscribe button will be visible in the message body, and commercial senders must process these requests within two days.
