Microsoft adds AI-powered makeup filters to 'Teams' video conferencing

Sometimes, you might want to turn off your webcam during a video call, especially if you don't feel like you look your best. Microsoft, the company behind Teams, wants to help make things easier for its users. They're introducing a new feature that uses AI (artificial intelligence) to enhance your appearance, just like the filters you see on social media platforms like TikTok.

On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that they are partnering with the cosmetics brand Maybelline to bring these "virtual makeup" filters to Microsoft Teams. With the Maybelline Beauty app, you'll have access to 12 unique looks to choose from. These filters can blur certain features and add digital makeup colours. The app will even tell you which real-world Maybelline products and shades the filter is replicating, so you can try them out in real life.

Usually, companies use these virtual "try-on" experiences to promote their actual products. It's unusual to see Maybelline encouraging people in a corporate workplace software like Microsoft Teams to explore different makeup looks and possibly consider buying their products.
