Google's new 'Math Solver' feature could answer trickier math problems

Google AI has introduced an advanced maths tutor aimed at assisting students in tackling challenging mathematical problems. Utilising artificial intelligence, this tutor offers personalised instruction to students of any skill level.

The Google AI Math Tutor is a versatile tool that can help students grasp various maths subjects, from algebra to calculus, and provide detailed, step-by-step guidance for tasks like quadratic equation solving and function derivative calculations.

Furthermore, this tutor offers more than just problem-solving assistance. It empowers students to advance their maths skills by offering a wide selection of practice problems or allowing them to generate their own. The tutor then offers valuable feedback, enabling students to evaluate their performance and recognize areas where they need further practice.

Google used its Multitask Unified Model (MUM) to create a mathematics and physics solving system that can understand a wide range of search queries presented in various formats, including text, images, and videos.

Apart from the problem-solving feature, Google has integrated new 3D models into its Search platform. These models enable users to interact with dynamic diagrams across almost 1,000 subjects, spanning areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and more. Google initially introduced 3D models back in 2021, initially covering over 200 topics related to chemistry, biology, physics, and anatomy.

As per Google's Keyword blog, they mentioned, "When you're diving into a maths textbook or using Search to gain a better understanding of a complex physics problem, it can be challenging to articulate your precise query. Consider intricate biology concepts or tricky geometry problems, for instance. With the latest enhancements in Search and Lens, you can now visually explore STEM-related concepts and determine the appropriate equations in a more natural and intuitive manner."

This feature is presently accessible on the web platform and will soon extend to mobile devices. According to the Google blog, you can effortlessly access the AI Math Tutor by typing your equation or integral into the Search bar or by using Lens to snap a picture for a step-by-step explanation and solution. You can also initiate the experience by typing "maths solver" on desktop and, in the near future, on mobile devices.
