Google plans to delete inactive accounts after 2 years

Over the weekend, Google sent emails to its many users, letting them know that the company is changing how long an inactive Google Account can stay unused. Now, an account can be inactive for up to two years before changes happen. This rule applies to everything Google offers. This new rule is starting now. It applies to any Google Account that hasn't been used or logged into for two years. If an account is inactive, and anything inside it, it might get deleted starting from December 1, 2023.

These updates won't affect you unless your Google Account has been inactive for two years or you haven't used it to log in to any Google service for more than two years.Google mentioned, "Although these changes are starting now, the earliest we would delete any account could be December 2023."

If your account becomes inactive, Google will send multiple reminder emails to you and the recovery email you've set up (if there is one), before they do anything or remove any content from your account. They will send you reminder emails at least 8 months before they do anything to your account. Once a Google Account is deleted, the email address linked to that account can't be used again for making a new Google Account," explained the company.

The easiest way to keep your Google Account safe is to log in to it at least once every two years. If you've logged in to your Google Account within the last two years, your account is active and won't be deleted, Google assured.
