Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, has unveiled a bold proposal to build a human colony on Mars in the coming years. One million people are to be sent to Mars, according to Elon Musk, who declared on social media on Sunday. He claimed that humanity would only cross the Great Filter and reach Mars when it could endure without Earthly supplies arriving.
He made these remarks in response to a post detailing the capabilities of SpaceX's Starship rocket, which Musk asserts would be crucial to realizing his aspirations for Mars. He tweeted, "A journey to Mars will one day be like a flight across the country."

Musk visions a civilization on Mars
Musk is not alone in having grandiose visions of Mars. The software tycoon has long expressed his desire to see humanity become "multi-planetary," frequently referring to a human presence on Mars as a safeguard for civilization. But based on his most recent remarks, it appears like SpaceX is working hard to make this vision a reality in the coming years.
Musk said just last week that Starship may travel to the moon in five years. He added that astronauts will travel farther into space with SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule than they have in more than 50 years. Musk acknowledges that creating a self-sustaining community on Mars will need a great deal of work and creativity, despite its grandiose nature.
He has previously talked about his aspirations to build a permanent Moon base. Musk tweeted back in December, saying, "Humanity should have a moon base, cities on Mars, and be out there among the stars."
SpaceX's Starship rocket
Musk is well-known for his ambitious schedules, yet his businesses have accomplished significant feats that were previously unthinkable, such as reusable orbital rockets. Nevertheless, the Mars vision has enormous technical obstacles.
The recent Starship test flight ended in a fiery crash, demonstrating how slowly progress is still being made. Musk anticipates that the vehicle's capabilities will be demonstrated when the third test of the year reaches orbit.
