Boston Dynamics, the Hyundai-owned US robotics design firm, has taken a leap forward in intelligence with its latest creation! Meet Spot, the incredible robot who has now acquired the ability to communicate. Thanks to the brilliant minds at Boston Dynamics and their collaboration with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Spot has been trained to not only answer questions but also generate informative responses about the company's facilities.
Boston Dynamics robot ' Spot' is capable of accomplishing a wide range of tasks, ranging from mobility and dexterity to perception and intelligence, with the goal of making robots more useful in our daily lives.
According to The Verge, to make Spot ‘talk,’ Boston Dynamics used ChatGPT along with some open-source large language models (LLMs) to carefully train the robot's responses. The engineers then added a speaker and text-to-speech capabilities to Spot. The team embedded a ‘very brief’ script; by combining the script with the imagery Spot gets from the cameras on its gripper and body, and gathers more information to generate a response accordingly. Boston Dynamics essentially describes Spot as capturing images and answering questions about them using Visual Question-answering models.
What can the Boston Dynamics robot dog do?
Boston Dynamics says that Spot will enhance the team's performance, whether it's on factory floors, construction sites, research labs, or any other environment . Serving as an agile sensing platform, Spot delivers valuable insights into everyday tasks, site conditions, and even potential risks. Spot can operate independently, handling tasks like self-charging, adapting to changing obstacles, and recovering from falls autonomously.
How to use 'Spot'- a robot dog?
According to the official website, Spot is easy to use and intuitive to learn, making it quick to deploy for both manual operations and autonomous tasks. With ready-to-use packages tailored for inspection, research, and handling hazardous situations, can swiftly bring value to an organisation.
