Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), has recently announced the removal of the block feature from the social media platform. This decision came in response to a query from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account, which asked users whether they preferred muting or blocking.
In a post on X, Musk stated that the block feature would no longer be available, except for direct messages. Users will still have the option to mute others, which allows them to avoid seeing posts from muted accounts. However, muted accounts can still engage with the user's content and even share it with their followers along with their own comments or send direct messages.
The block feature has been a crucial security tool on X, and some users have expressed concerns that its removal might lead to an increase in online harassment on the platform.
Since Elon Musk's acquisition of the company and its transformation into X through a $44 billion deal last year, there have been several significant changes. These changes include workforce layoffs, replacing the old verified program with the Twitter Blue subscription priced at $8/month, rebranding the platform as X, and introducing new features like live streaming. Musk's vision for X aims to create an updated version of the platform, often referred to as 'Twitter 2.0'.
