Apple macOS Sonoma Unveiled: Know more about the features

Apple has released macOS Sonoma, a new update to macOS 14.0, which brings a number of iOS-inspired features to the Mac operating system. These include persistent desktop widgets, an updated lock screen with an iOS-style look, a game mode that improves gaming performance, and more. The update file is approximately 7.7GB in size, so make sure you have enough storage space available before proceeding.

The update of Sonoma arrived just over a week after Apple unveiled iOS 17. Typically, the iPhone operating system is released shortly after its event, while the next macOS version takes about a month longer to roll out.

Sonoma will allow you to place iPhone widgets on  Mac without the need to install their corresponding apps. It includes a feature that allows you to superimpose your head or full body over a presentation during video conferencing. The lock screen on macOS now resembles the appearance of your iPad or iPhone screen, except for the presence of a password field instead of a number pad. It would definitely be interesting to have Face ID on the Mac at this point!

Macs haven't historically been recognised as premier gaming machines, but there's good news for the dedicated few who indulge in Mac gaming. According to Apple, the new Game Mode feature improves game performance by allocating more CPU and GPU resources and optimizing the responsiveness of wireless gaming accessories. You will find other notable updates including search filters for iMessage, user profiles in Safari, support for web apps that can be added to your dock, and more.

If you want to download Sonoma, you can simply click on the Apple logo in the top right corner of your screen and follow this path: System Settings > General > Software Update. You may receive a notification in the System Settings sidebar, which will make the process more efficient. Also, it is recommended to start this update outside of your working hours to prevent any possible interruptions.
