A survey found that 95% of WhatsApp users in India received annoying or unsolicited commercial messages on the app.
According to a report published by the social network LocalCircles, the majority of these irritation-inducing messages were sent by individuals offering employment opportunities or financial services, real estate, health care, and pathology services, or real estate.
Based on their interactions with business WhatsApp accounts and activities on Facebook and Instagram, 76% of respondents received such messages on WhatsApp.
To avoid feeling overwhelmed by spam messages, WhatsApp users can take several steps, such as:
- Muting group chats or individual contacts that frequently send spam messages.
- Blocking contacts that repeatedly send unwanted messages.
- Reporting spam messages to WhatsApp by pressing and holding the message and selecting "Report" from the menu.
- Using the "Filter" feature to automatically send messages from unknown senders to the "Filtered Messages" folder.
- Avoiding sharing personal information or clicking on links from unknown sources.
- By taking these steps, WhatsApp users can reduce the frequency of spam messages they receive and maintain a more manageable inbox.
