According to a recent study published on Thursday by Pew Research, the majority of Americans are concerned about the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce in the next 20 years. The survey revealed that over 60% of respondents believed that AI would have a significant impact on jobholders, but only 28% believed that they would be personally affected by this technology. Roughly half of the respondents expressed the view that they would not be affected or impacted significantly by AI. Overall, the survey revealed a sense of caution among those polled regarding the emerging technology.
When asked about their opinion on using AI for making final hiring decisions, a vast majority of 71% opposed the idea, while only 7% supported it. Similarly, when asked about using AI for making firing decisions, the response was also overwhelmingly negative. However, opinions were almost evenly divided when it came to the use of AI in evaluating job applicants, with 47% believing that AI would be better than humans at evaluating all applicants equally. A significant majority of 66% of respondents stated that they would not apply for a job if they knew that AI would play a significant role in the hiring process. The survey revealed that only 39% of the Americans surveyed were aware of AI being used in hiring practices, while the remaining 61% had no knowledge of it.
