The majority of OpenAI employees have vowed to leave the firm and work for Microsoft, which has recruited former co-founder Greg Brockman and fired CEO Sam Altman to head a new "advanced AI research team." More than 500 existing workers of OpenAI wrote in a letter to the board that was published this morning by journalist Kara Swisher and Wired that "Microsoft has assured us that there are positions for all OpenAI employees at this new subsidiary should we choose to join."
The event occurred one day after Sam Altman, the company's CEO, was fired.
According to a letter sent by the workers, over 500 OpenAI employees threatened to quit the company on Monday unless every member of the board resigned. Reuters obtained this information.
They also announced that they would be joining Microsoft's new division under former boss Sam Altman.
The letter states, "The procedure you used to fire Sam Altman and kick Greg Brockman off the board has put all of this work in jeopardy and damaged our company and mission." "It is evident from your behavior that you lacked the necessary skills to manage OpenAI."
According to a person familiar with the situation, the company's chief operating officer Brad Lightcap, chief data scientist Ilya Sutskever, and chief technology officer Mira Murati were among those posing a danger.
Shortly after attempts over the weekend to rehire Altman as OpenAI CEO failed, he was hired by the company. Emmett Shear, a co-founder and former CEO of Twitch, has been appointed as the company's acting CEO. After Altman's shocking dismissal on Friday, Mira Murati was chosen as interim CEO of OpenAI, and she will succeed him. At the top of the list of OpenAI workers who have threatened to join Microsoft is Murati.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by OpenAI.
