2000+ enrolled in Mysuru to become intervention officers to tackle cybercrime

The Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (ISAC), a non-profit organisation based in Mysuru, has received over 2,000 registrations for its free online Cyber Crime Intervention Officer (CCIO) course. The course is being offered as part of International Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Cyber crime

The CCIO course allows participants to volunteer as first responders to cyber crimes, providing assistance to both themselves and their loved ones. However, the actual investigation of cyber crimes will still be carried out by the police. The course is open to individuals over the age of 16 and aims to equip them with the skills to provide an initial response to cyber crime victims, such as those affected by online sexual offences or email breaches.

ISAC has received information from the Indian government that over 1.4 million cyber attacks were reported in 2021, with the country having a total of 825 million internet users. Women accounted for 42% of internet users, and children between the ages of 5 and 11 accounted for 15%. The increase in internet users has led to a rise in cyber crimes against women and children, including cyber blackmail, financial fraud, cyber pornography, stalking, bullying, defamation, morphing, and the creation of fake profiles.

Cyber Crime

The online CCIO course began on October 11 and will conclude on October 26. The course consists of instructor-led sessions conducted on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants will receive video recordings of the sessions and must submit at least three out of five assignments by November 11. The course concludes with an examination on October 28, consisting of 75 multiple-choice questions with a pass percentage of 60.

In addition to the course, ISAC has launched a mobile app called "Cop Connect," which connects cyber crime victims with thousands of experts across India who can provide assistance. This initiative aims to further support individuals affected by cyber crimes and ensure they receive the necessary help and guidance.
