Indian Army will test 'jetpack suit' developed by Bengaluru startup

The Jetpack suit, which was displayed at the Aero India Show 2023 and manufactured by a Bengaluru-based startup, has caught attention for its innovation and is in the running for the contract by the Indian armed forces. The suit will enable soldiers to fly like birds and carry out missions.

A Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued by the Indian military for the purchase of 48 jet suits for use in trials. According to the sources, the Army would begin large-scale procurement if they pass the test.

The jetpack suit was made by Absolute Composite Private Limited, which has its headquarters in Bengaluru. It has five engines, including a turbo engine in the back.

The suit has a weight capacity of 80 kilograms and weighs three kilograms. It can fly for ten minutes over a distance of ten kilometres. The research into increasing mileage-based fuel efficiency is ongoing.

The jet suit's components are 70% indigenous, and efforts are being made to make it 100% indigenous. It is driven by a gas turbine, has a top speed of 50 kilometres per hour, and can carry a soldier up to a height of 10 to 15 meters. The backpack, electronics, and diesel tank make up the wearable jetpack. The tank has a capacity of 30 litres.

The Indian Army has agreed to test the jetpack suit in a variety of field conditions because of its interest in the technology. The Indian Army might be able to use the technology for special forces operations and search-and-rescue missions if it works out.
