John Skipper, a former president of ESPN, has proposed making the Super Bowl a pay-per-view event instead of a television broadcast and streaming program.
Skipper stated that the NFL would benefit from substantial revenue increases if the proposal were to be implemented. The highest audience for a Super Bowl in six years was over 113 million people who watched FOX's television and digital properties.
"I assume that there are some number of people that’s the only game they watched the entire year, and they don’t want to be left out," Skipper said.
