Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana's Record-breaking Test Partnership

On the first day of the one-off Test against South Africa, India's Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma set a new record for the highest opening partnership in women's Test cricket, scoring 292 runs. This partnership broke the previous record of 241 runs held by Pakistan's Sajjida Shah and Kiran Baluch against the West Indies in 2004.

Record Women Cricket

The Indian duo's stand also became the second-highest for any wicket in women's Test history, trailing only Australia's LA Reeler and DA Annetts' 309-run partnership against England in 1987. Mandhana and Verma also broke the previous Indian record for any wicket partnership, which was 275 runs scored by Poonam Raut and Thirush Kamini against South Africa in 2014.

Smriti Mandana

Delmi Tucker dismissed Mandhana for 149 just before she reached 150, ending the partnership. Verma continued her impressive form, becoming the fourth Indian woman to score 150 or more runs in a Test innings, after Mithali Raj, Thirush Kamini, and Sandhya Agarwal.

Shafali Verma

By Tea, India Women had reached 334 for two in 60 overs, with Verma unbeaten on 165. Satheesh Shubha was the second wicket to fall, scoring 15 runs. This record-breaking performance has laid a solid foundation for India in the Test match.
