Mitchell Starc broke the record for becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. He was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore. Not long after his teammate Pat Cummins was bought for Rs 20.50 crore by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Starc last played the IPL in 2015.
The two bidders that were fighting for Mitchell Starc were Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujrat Titans but KKR won the race for having Starc in their team for the upcoming IPL season. Starc has only played two seasons of the IPL so far and he has taken 34 wickets in 27 games with an average of 20.38.
In contrast to Starc, his former Aussie teammate, Pat Cummins had an intense bidding war with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore but Cummins was officially sold and secured to the Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. Last year, the Punjab Kings bought Sam Curran for 18.5 crore. SRH also bought Travis Head for Rs 6.80 crore.
The Kiwi batter, Rachin Ravindra who had a base price of Rs 50 lakh was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 1.8 crore. He was one of the star players for the New Zealand side this year for the ODI World Cup. The West Indies batter, Rovman Powell was the costliest players in the capped batters list who was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.40 crore.
Harshal Patel became the most expensive Indian buy in the auction so far. He was sold to the PBKS for Rs 11.75 crore. He was previously bought by RCB in the 2022 IPL auction for Rs 10.75 crore. Daryl Mitchell became the 2nd most expensive New Zealand player in IPL history. He was bought by CSK for Rs 14 crore. Harry Brook was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 4 crore after a bidding was with Rajasthan Royals. He although suffered a dip of Rs 9.25 crore as he was bought by the SRH for Rs 13.25 crore in the 2023 auction but was later released by SRH ahead of the 2024 IPL auction.
Steve Smith and Manish Pandey went unsold for the first round of the IPL 2024 auction.
