Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia is facing another provisional ban from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) as of Sunday, June 23. Previously, a disciplinary panel had overturned his initial suspension due to procedural issues, specifically citing a lack of prior notice of the charges. However, NADA has now re-issued the suspension and sanctioned the Olympic bronze medalist.
The controversy began when Bajrang allegedly refused to provide a urine sample during trials in Sonipat on March 10, leading to the initial suspension for a doping rule violation. Bajrang's lawyer, Vishuspath Singania, addressed the situation in an interview with India Today:
"Yes, we have received the notice and will respond accordingly. Last time, we participated in the hearing, and this time too, we will submit our reply. Bajrang has not committed any wrongdoing, so we will fight this."
This latest development presents a renewed challenge for Bajrang Punia as he prepares to contest the charges and clear his name amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
