Sumit Antil Shatters World Record in Javelin Throw, Securing Gold at Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
Sumit Antil, the current javelin throw Paralympic champion, set a world record effort of 73.29 metres on Wednesday to win the gold medal in the F64 competition at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. India earned another gold in the javelin throw through the efforts of 17-year-old Haney, who grabbed first place in the F37 event.
To win the Asian Para Games gold, the 25-year-old Antil smashed his own world record of 70.83m. He won the gold at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris earlier this year with a throw of 70.83 metres.
Antil had set a world record throw of 68.55 metres to win gold in the men's F64 javelin event at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
With a throw of 62.06 metres, another Indian, Pushpendra Singh, earned the bronze medal.
With a throw of 64.09 metres, Samitha Arachchige Kodithuwakku of Sri Lanka won silver.
Haney won the gold with a throw of 55.97 metres, a new Games record.
In the men's doubles recurve, the archers Harvinder and Sahil took home bronze.
India is now seventh in the medal standings with 42 medals earned, including 11 gold, 13 silver, and 18 bronze.
