Will Congress Back Tejashwi Yadav as CM Face to Revive Bihar Alliance?

Tejashwi Yadav is set to become the Chief Ministerial face for the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar, and Congress has decided to support him as part of their strategy to revive unity ahead of the 2025 state elections. This decision is likely to change the political scenario in Bihar, especially as the alliance tries to present a united front against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), emerged as the most popular choice for Chief Minister in recent opinion polls, leading with 36.5% support from the public. Many people in Bihar see him as a young leader who is willing to bring change and take on old problems like unemployment and poor infrastructure. His promise to provide a government job for every household has made him popular among the youth, who want better opportunities.

The Congress party decided to support Tejashwi Yadav after serious talks with RJD leaders, including his father Lalu Prasad Yadav. There were concerns about disagreements over seat sharing, but Congress believes that presenting Tejashwi as the face of the alliance will help bring together smaller parties and improve their chance of winning. Senior Congress leaders even met in Patna to resolve these issues, and now most parties in the alliance have agreed to unite behind Tejashwi.

While the main parties in Mahagathbandhan—the RJD and Congress—have agreed on Tejashwi Yadav, smaller allies have their own interests and demands. Some, like the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), have expressed disappointment and even boycotted the elections due to seat allocation disputes. Others, such as the Left parties and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), have negotiated hard to protect their positions. Despite these challenges, the alliance hopes that a clear leadership face will help solve disputes and reduce internal competition.

Many people in Bihar want change and fresh ideas in politics. Tejashwi Yadav’s vision for jobs and development has created hope among voters, especially the youth and families who want a better future. However, a large number also remain loyal to NDA leaders like Nitish Kumar. According to recent opinion polls, the NDA is still slightly ahead, but the Mahagathbandhan is close and gaining support.

Backing Tejashwi Yadav gives the Mahagathbandhan a single, strong leader to rally around, which is important in any election. It can bring clarity and enthusiasm among party workers and supporters. Yet, success will depend on how well the alliance manages rivalries and whether Tejashwi can appeal across different social groups—castes, regions, and economic classes.

If Congress and its allies campaign together and present solutions for real problems, they could revive the alliance and challenge the NDA’s dominance. But if old quarrels come up again or if the alliance breaks over seat sharing and leadership issues, voters may lose trust. For Tejashwi Yadav, this is both an opportunity and a test to prove he can lead Bihar towards progress.

In summary, Congress’s decision to support Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Minister face is an attempt to unite the opposition and bring new energy to the Bihar elections. Whether this move succeeds will depend on the teamwork within Mahagathbandhan and the public’s response to Tejashwi’s plans for change. The real contest will play out as election day gets closer, with every party and voter learning from the past and hoping for a better future.
