Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP swept Punjab with 117 seats in the Assembly Elections of 2022 and took one step closer to becoming a National Party. It needed that if the party wants to be recognized as a national party they first have to be recognized as a State Party in at least four states, the goal of the AAP is very clear and for that, it is at work already. Punjab’s victory was the first victory of the party outside New Delhi and within the two hours of vote counting, it was all clear about the win as the party was leading with 90 seats.
Aam Aadmi Party is currently very active and focused on its nationwide expansion and has also appointed several office bearers for nine States it is aiming for in the election of 2023. There are some states to which the party is giving more attention such as Gujrat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc are on the radar of the party. While talking to the media, the AAP leader Akshay Marathe said, “ Yes, we are going to Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. These are the two states on our radar and the party has been sending party workers to these states and we will have a big impact. For decades people of India have had to decide between two parties who did not work for them. For the first time, they are seeing an alternative to both, and people want change. We have faced this AAP all along. That political bigwigs don’t even consider us or acknowledge our presence. But then we clean sweep them. I say this with humility that we have worked very hard for the last 10 years and our performance can be seen by all.” He added.
As before turning into a national party, the party has to be recognized as a state party in at least 4 states with the 6% of the votes, AAP is trying its best and arranging campaigns, and visits in all the states. They are mainly focused on Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and the Northeast parts of the country. The AAP is working hard and preparing its polls for the Election in the states and according to the latest updates on the Election Commission websites, AAP has to be recognized as a State Party in Goa. So, technically they only need one more state with a vote count of more than 6 per cent for becoming the national party.
Punjab’s victory has contributed very much to strengthening the Party and now Arvind Kejriwal's eyes are on the next elections, for which senior leaders with proven track records have been appointed as election in-charges. The party will soon announce its office bearers in more states in the next few days. With eyes on the Gujarat election due in December this year, the AAP has appointed Delhi MLA Gulab Singh as the party’s election in charge. Rajya Sabha candidate Sandeep Pathak has been made the state in charge.
In Himachal Pradesh, where the assembly elections are about to be held in November 2022, the AAP had appointed now-arrested Delhi minister Satyendra Jain as the election in charge while Durgesh Pathak has been handed charge of the state affairs of the party.
In Gujarat, AAP's MLA from Delhi, Gulab Singh Yadav will now serve as election in charge in the state. Senior AAP leader and Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai will serve as the party's election in-charge in Chhattisgarh, currently ruled by the Congress. For Haryana, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta has been appointed as in charge of the party's political affairs in the state. Party's chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj has been made the party's election in charge of Haryana. Karnataka and Telangana are also on the list of the states in which AAP wanted to start their journey and are more likely to focus on these states as well.
