PM Modi Unveils Rs 15,000 Cr Projects in Bengal, Takes on Sandeshkhali

Krishnanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of development projects worth Rs 15,000 crore in Krishnanagar, Nadia district of West Bengal on Saturday, spanning the power, rail, and road sectors on Saturday, calling the state the "eastern gate" of the nation. During his public address in the presence of the Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C V Ananda Bose, and Union Minister of State for Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Shantanu Thakur,  PM Modi asserted these projects will improve the lives of West Bengal's citizens and generate employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

Underlining the pivotal role of electricity in driving development, the Prime Minister highlighted the government's commitment to making West Bengal self-sufficient in power. During his public address, he mentioned the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2x660 MW) in Purulia district, projected to attract an investment of over Rs 11,000 crore, addressing the state's energy needs while fostering economic growth. Additionally, he lauded the environmental significance of the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system of Units 7 & 8 of Mejia Thermal Power Station, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 650 crore.

He announced the inauguration of the Farakka-Raiganj Section of the NH-12 (100 Km) road project, with an allocated budget of around Rs 2000 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated the road project for four-laning of the Farakka-Raiganj Section of NH-12 (100 Km), valued at approximately Rs 1986 crore. This project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and contribute to the socio-economic advancement of North Bengal and the Northeast region.

In addition to road infrastructure, Prime Minister Modi dedicated four rail projects in West Bengal, collectively valued at over Rs 940 crore. These projects include the doubling of the Damodar - Mohishila rail line, the third line between Rampurhat and Murarai, the doubling of the Bazarsau - Azimganj rail line, and the new line connecting Azimganj – Murshidabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn't shy away from addressing and criticizing the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government during his visit, specifically bringing attention to the Sandeshkhali row. He also raised concerns about the presence of fake job cards in the 100 Days Work initiative and expressed dissatisfaction with the implementation of the Ujjala Scheme.
