 About Ratan Tata

  • Ratan Tata, the industrialist, was born on December 28, 1937, to Naval Tata, who was later adopted into the Tata family, and Sooni Tata, the niece of Tata group founder Jamsetji Tata.
  • Ratan Tata embarked on his journey at Cornell University, studying architecture and engineering at the age of 17. Joining the Tata group in 1962, he started as an assistant in Tata Industries, undergoing training at the Jamshedpur plant of Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, now called Tata Motors.
  • During his career, Ratan Tata held diverse roles within the conglomerate, with notable stints at Tisco, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and a term as Chairman of Air India from 1986 to 1989.
  • Assuming the role of chairman in March 1991, Ratan Tata implemented a series of reforms to modernise the group's businesses.
