Five earthquakes occurred in Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir during a 24-hour period. The initial 3.0 magnitude earthquake occurred on June 17 at about 2:03 pm in Ramban, J&K. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has reported that the most recent earthquake, which struck Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, had a Richter scale value of 4.1. On June 18, at roughly 3:50 am, the earthquake struck. The earthquake struck 80 km east of Katra at a depth of 11 km. In a tweet, NCS wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on 18-06-2023, 03:50:29 IST, Lat: 32.96 & Long: 75.79, Depth: 11 Km, Location: 80km E of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India."
The Leh area of Ladakh had experienced an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 just an hour before, according to NCS. The earthquake was 10 km deep and happened around 2:16 in the morning. "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on 18-06-2023, 02:16:49 IST, Lat: 35.85 & Long: 80.08, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 295km NE of Leh, Ladakh," tweeted NCS. Prior to it, earthquakes struck Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh and Doda districts late on June 17, evening. At 9:44 p.m., a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Ladakh, and 10 minutes later, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir.
