‘October Heat’ - Mumbai grapples as temperatures soar past 36 degrees

Mumbai is currently facing ‘October Heat’ - a weather phenomenon where the temperatures suddenly rise above normal. As it is, the monsoons in Mumbai have been scattered, but this onset of second summer, has left the Mumbaikars hot & bothered.

The culprit behind this warmth is the arrival of easterly winds, ushering in dry air that's keeping the heat locked in. India Meteorological Department (IMD) states - daytime highs of 34-36°C are predicted to persist throughout the weekend.

Heat Mumbai

We can all now see the effects of climate change in full force everywhere. Be it the flash floods in Sikkim, or the arbitrary weather in the mountains. Mumbai’s 36-degree spike on Oct 6th is also a part of the same picture.

This is also flu season, and the breeding ground for multiple other diseases that thrive on unequal weather patterns, like sweltering, coughing etc. There might be no fluctuations in the AQI for the next three days, which might be the only blessing of this heat. This heat is going to not give in until the start of next week, when the maximum temperatures may finally stabilise around 33°C, per the weather dept’s predictions.
