In Kozhikode, Kerala, a transgender couple named Zahhad and Ziya Paval are getting ready to become parents. The couple announced that they will be having a baby next month, making it possible that this will be the nation's first transgender pregnancy.
Ziya Paval, a dancer, posted on Instagram that her partner, Zahhad, is eight months pregnant at the moment. Apparently a first for the transgender community in India, the couple is now expecting their first child in March.
Zahhad was born a woman but became a man, and Ziya was born a man but became a woman. After discovering that they were transgender, both of them left their families in their early adolescence.
A transgender man is someone who was assigned female at birth but identifies as male. Pregnancy can occur if a transgender man has not undergone a surgical procedure to remove their reproductive organs, such as a hysterectomy or oophorectomy, and retains the ability to conceive and carry a pregnancy.
Some transgender individuals choose to have children, while others do not. “We are about to realize my dream of becoming a mother and his dream of becoming a father. An eight-month-old fetus is now in (Zahhad’s) belly From what we came to know, this is the first trans man’s pregnancy in India,” Paval said in the Instagram post.
