Visitors to the United States with business or tourist visas (B-1 and B-2) can now apply for jobs and attend interviews. In addition, potential employees must verify their visa status prior to commencing employment. The B-1 and B-2 visas are included in the B visa category. These visas are the most common in the United States for various purposes.
The USCIS decision comes as thousands of highly skilled foreign-born workers, including Indians, have lost their jobs due to recent layoffs at companies including Google, Microsoft and Amazon. These workers are currently struggling to find new jobs within the 60-day period provided by their work visas after ending employment to stay in the country. Due to these circumstances, many of them have upgraded to tourist or student visas, among other visa types to remain in the country.
