The Indian Armed Forces are currently experiencing a shortfall of approximately 155,000 personnel, with the Army having the highest number of vacancies at 136,000, according to a statement by Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt. The Navy is facing a shortfall of 12,428 personnel, while the Indian Air Force has a deficit of 7,031 personnel. The shortage includes officers, medical and dental officers, sailors, and airmen.
To address this issue, the Armed Forces are taking several measures, such as improving image projection and publicity through various channels, holding career fairs and motivational lectures, and revamping recruitment websites to facilitate a robust recruitment management system. The government has also granted Permanent Commission to Short Service Commission officers of both genders and allowed women to join through NDA.
The Armed Forces will continue to review the shortfall of personnel regularly and take necessary measures to mitigate the issue. These measures aim to encourage more young people, especially women, to join the services and contribute to the country's defense.
