Business transformation AI platform ServiceNow has reported that the workforce expansion in India is certain and to grow from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028. That would be a net increase of 33.89 million workers distributed across industries in the country. What's interesting, however, is that the retail sector is expected to lead the drive for hire, adding a further 6.96 million workers to accommodate growth.

The demand for tech-related jobs is surging across multiple industries. Key roles anticipated to see significant growth include:

  • Software Application Developers: +109,700 positions
  • Systems Software Developers: +48,800 positions
  • Data Engineers: +48,500 positions
  • Web Developers: +48,500 positions
  • Data Analysts: +47,800 positions
  • Software Testers: +45,300 positions

Impact of Generative AI in Tech Jobs

Emerging technologies, such as Generative AI, will automate work and augment productivity in traditional tech jobs. For instance, 6.9 hours a week of the work of a Systems Administrator could be automated. AI Systems Engineers would be significantly impacted by AI-related changes. Implementation consultants would benefit from 1.9 hours of their work every week coming from automation with the elimination of repetitive tasks. Even less impacted roles can count on a decent amount of saved time, which can be used to pursue more strategic initiatives for a professional.
