1600 techies are being laid off per day in 2023 by tech companies globally, including in India, recent data has revealed. These mass layoff incidents are increasing across the globe as fears around global recession and slowdown make their way into routine lives.
Employees were laid off by several major tech companies, including Meta, Amazon, Twitter, Better.com, and Alibaba.
Around 91 companies have laid off more than 24,000 tech employees in the first 15 days this month, signalling worse days ahead. Back home, companies like Ola (which fired 200 employees), ShareChat, Skit.ai, Amazon, Twitter, Better.com, Alibaba and Dunzo have all laid off employees. It is a worrying trend and a difficult time for tech workers.
