Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and falls on the first day of the Chaitra month, which usually falls in March or April. On this day, people clean their homes, decorate them with rangoli designs, and raise a gudi (a bamboo stick with a colourful silk cloth and a garlanded goblet on top) outside their homes as a symbol of victory and good fortune. They also prepare traditional sweets and dishes, wear new clothes, and visit friends and family to exchange greetings and gifts.
