Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the inaugural session of the 4th RE-Invest 2024 of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. She was speaking at an event graced by investors from across the world and the leaders in the energy sector. Modi mentioned a few of the key targets such as house construction for 70 million people, launching 12 new industrial cities, and eight high-speed road corridor projects. PM Modi mentioned significant advancements of India in the field of renewable energy, promising a plan to source 31,000 MW of hydropower with an approved budget of ₹12,000 crore."India knows what it takes to become a developed nation by 2047," Modi said, stressing that solar, wind, nuclear, and hydropower are the future of energy in India. This commitment is central to the Indian strategy of growth without dependence on foreign energy sources for sustainability.
Adani announced an investment of ₹4,05,800 crore in renewable energy.
Adani Group had announced a commitment of ₹4,05,800 crore for focussed renewable energy targets in India during the RE-Invest 2024 summit. The group aims to achieve 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This large commitment positions the Adani Group as one of the key enablers for India's transformation into a green energy economy. The largest renewables player in India, Adani Green Energy Ltd, will construct large-scale solar wind and green hydrogen facilities with Adani New Industries Ltd. This can create over 71,000 new jobs, with plans for a 10 GW solar manufacturing facility, 5 GW wind manufacturing capacity, and 10 GW green hydrogen production. It marks Adani's role as a vital player in the development of India's potential in green energy to become a leader globally. Adani Green Energy Ltd and Adani New Industries Ltd, have made investment commitments in renewable projects by the year 2030.
Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana
Rooftop Solar and Sustainable Villages PM Modi also referred to the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, which encourages the installation of rooftop solar panels across Indian homes. He said So far, more than 325,000 homes have installed rooftop solar solutions, and 13 million families have enrolled in the scheme.
