A Russian court on Thursday fined a Wikipedia owner 2 million rubles ($19.93 lakh) for disobeying a request to remove "banned content" pertaining to the Russian military. The new fines are one more sanction Russian courts have added to their list of punishments against Wikipedia. A Moscow court fined the nonprofit organisation 1.5 million rubles just a week ago for publishing a piece in Russian about the current war in Ukraine. Following Wikipedia's refusal to delete the article headed "Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia region," a punishment was imposed. Russia's government has been actively restricting web material since its invasion of Ukraine. Wikipedia stands out as one of the few independent sources of information that are still accessible in the nation as a result. Russian speakers worldwide will have access to Wikipedia thanks to the non-profit encyclopaedia portal.
