White House Recruits Tik Tok Influencers to Reach Young Voters

For the 2024 reelection campaign, Joe Biden intends to assemble an army of TikTok influencers in hopes of winning over Gen Z voters.

According to Axios, the White House's digital strategy staff is reaching out to social media influencers and providing them with exclusive briefing rooms.

Henry Sisson, a 20-year-old NYU student who manages a TikTok profile with more than 600,000 followers, is one of those sought after. He delivers political commentary and frequently touts the potential of Gen Z to increase Democratic support.

Other people who were hired include Vivian Tu, a 29-year-old TikTok influencer, and Heather Cox Richardson, a 61-year-old blogger who publishes a well-liked newsletter on Substack.

It does so at a time when the Biden administration has backed the Restrict Act, a bill that calls for a complete ban on or stringent limitations on the influence and power of Chinese-owned TikTok.

A growing number of Democrats have joined the Republicans in asking for such a measure as the country's tensions with China have escalated.

Jen O'Malley Dillon, White House deputy chief of staff, told Axios 'We're trying to reach young people, but also moms who use different platforms to get information and climate activists and people whose main way of getting information is digital.’
